In a quest to construct the perfect tattoo for myself, one that would place a beloved grandmother inside one of Alphonse Mucha’s voluptuous floral tableaux, I purchased a folio of the great Czech master’s work and set about collecting and reproducing various elements that were interesting to me. What began as a digital sketch book quickly spiraled out of control into a full-scale test of how close I could get to mimicking the real thing.
The resulting images range from faithfully-detailed reproductions to experiments and variations on smaller pieces of larger works. Though they will always pale in comparison to the real thing, they were a joy to create. Most importantly, I immersed myself in the expanses of the digital illustration medium and pushed my skills to a new level in the process.
