Here’s Bernie Sanders, back when his handlers didn’t make him comb his hair. I really enjoy creating vector portraits. Although they can be somewhat time consuming, I think I actually prefer doing it this way over digital painting. My fellow BAI student¬†Meredith Burke has shown me how amazing the blob brush tool can be, but this portrait was created entirely with the pen tool. Bernie has a lot of wrinkles and his hair is obviously crazy, so this was a really fun and idiosyncratic face to draw! Additionally, I discovered the gradient mapping feature in photoshop, which generated some pretty incredible results¬†√† la the more psychedelic moments in Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
